In 1991, Whaley went on full-time active duty. After a deployment for Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2009, his last duty assignment was on the staff of the Inspector General. He served our nation's military for 28 years and retired on October 1, 2011. In his “retirement”, he serves as a professor of Church Music and Worship at Liberty University, teaching online from his home. Additionally he enjoys his hobby: running sled dogs. Rodney, Jr. resides and works in Medicine Park, Oklahoma.

Serving as senior adult pastor, he believes our older members are the largest untapped resource in the church. Their experience and years of leadership are often overlooked. His goal is to encourage, instruct, and engage our senior members in their personal ministry gifts. He is convinced every senior member should be active mentoring our next generation. Some of his greatest joys in his position are found visiting church members in our hospitals as well as those who are homebound.
